Ramune x Kuro
This is another great little show that sits in my niche taste of cute boys deal with yokai and/or supernatural afflictions. Much like Elegant Yokai Apartment and Morose Mononokean.
The plot is As long as hearts exist inside people, there will always be those who suffer. And then something "strange" enters their mind and causes a strange disease to manifest itself in the body. The illness, which is called a "mystery disease" is unknown to most, but certainly exists. There is a doctor and apprentice who fights the disease, which modern medicine cannot cure. His name is Ramune. He acts freely all the time, is foul-mouthed, and doesn't even look like a doctor! However, once he is confronted with the mysterious disease, he is able to quickly uncover the root cause of his patients' deep-seated distress and cure them. And beyond that...
The cases are weird and wonderful in this often somehpw related to food like the curse of Gyoza ears. The characters are likeable and have good backstories so you feel you get to know them. Its not amazing or anything that's not really been done before. It has similarities to series like XXXholic but if like me you love those shows then this is worth a watch. It has a tenderness to it as well as the angst caused by the collision of stress/anxiety cause by Japanese modern society and the ancient and mysterious beliefs of Japan. I found it fun and interesting, I liked the weird cases and some lovable oddball characters.
Ramune himself is equal parts arrogant and capable but also kind and generous which makes him a great lead character. Its worth checking out as I enjoyed it and would watch another series if it happened!.
